Training for real life:

CRATE TRAINING

unnamed-3_edited.jpg

Crate training isn't about locking your dog away - its about creating a safe, comfortable space they're happy to call their own.

Wether you're bringing home a new puppy, helping an older dog to settle, or simply wanting to build better independence, we'll show you how to introduce crate training slowly, positively and at your dogs pace.

What we can help with:

  • Introducing the crate positively.

  • Creating a calm and comfortable crate routine.

  • Building up time in the crate gradually.

  • Teaching your dog to settle and relax.

  • Helping with independence and separation.

  • Preventing frustration and negative associations.

The goal? A dog that sees their crate as their safe space - not punishment!

PUPPY TRAINING

Puppyhood is the foundation for everything that comes next!

Our goal isn't simply to just get your puppy to sit, wait, and give paw - its to help them grow into calm, confident and a well balanced companion who can navigate everyday life with you.

We focus on building the right habits and behaviour from the beginning, helping your puppy understand how to behave in the real world while developing a strong relationship and clear communication between you both.

WHAT WE WORK ON:

Engagement & Focus -

Teaching your puppy that paying attention to you is rewarding and helping them choose you over distractions.

Loose lead walking -

Building good habits from the start, so your puppy learns that pulling isn't how they get what they want.

Recall -

Developing a reliable recall through games, rewards and gradually increasing distractions, giving your puppy the skills to safely enjoy off lead freedom.

Calmness & Settling -

Teaching your puppy how to switch off, relax and settle at home & out in the real world rather than expecting constant attention or stimulation.

Impulse control & Boundaries -

Helping your puppy learn that they don't always get what they want immediately, building patience and self-control from an early age.

Everyday manners -

From greeting people and waiting at doors to staying calm around distractions, we work on the behaviours that make everyday life easier.

Building confidence -

Helping your puppy become comfortable and confident rather than overwhelmed by new experiences, giving them the foundations to become a balanced adult dog.

Our goal -

We're not aiming for a puppy that simply performs commands when asked.

We're building the foundations for a dog that can think, communicate, make good choices and confidently enjoy life alongside you.

REACTIVITY TRAINING

Does your dog bark, lunge, pull, growl or become difficult to manage when they see other dogs, people, vehicles or certain situations?

Reactivity can be super frustrating and overwhelming, but reactive behaviour isn't always about aggression. There is usually a reason behind the behaviour and understanding why your dog is reacting is an important part of changing it!

At Adventure Tails we look at the motivation behind your dog's behaviour rather than simply stop the reaction in the moment.

UNDERSTANDING THE BEHAVIOUR:

FRUSTRATION-

Frustration is when a dog reacts when they want something they can't have. Being on a lead can create a barrier between them and what they want - for example, another dog they want to greet. If a dog has regularly been allowed to meet other dogs without boundaries they can learn to expect that interaction, making being prevented from doing so frustrating.

FEAR -

Fear based reactivity is different. When a dog feels threatened, their motivation is often to make the threat go away. They may bark, growl, lunge, retreat, freeze or display a range of other behaviours. They aren't choosing to be in that situation; they're trying to make themselves feel safer!

DEFENSIVE BEHAVIOUR & DRIVES -

Dogs can also react through defensive or protective behaviour, depending on the situation and their individual breed & temperament. Other motivations and drives - such as exploration, prey drive, affiliation and seeking interaction - can also influence how dogs respond.

WHAT WE CAN HELP WITH:

  • Understanding what triggers your dogs reactions

  • Identifying the motivation behind the behaviour

  • Improve lead handling & engagement

  • Teaching your dog to notice triggers without reacting

  • Building better focus and impulse control.

  • Working on appropriate distances and thresholds

  • Building confidence in uncomfortable situations

  • Helping YOU become a more confident dog handler!

THE GOAL?

Better understanding, better communication, A calmer, more confident companion.

Impulse Control & Obedience Training

Good obedience isn't about having a dog that simply follows follows commands. Its about teaching your dog how to listen, think and make the right choice, even when there are distractions around them.

At Adventure Tails, we focus on building the foundations of reliable obedience while developing your dogs ability to control their impulses and stay engaged with you.

We can work on skills such as:

  • Focus & Engagement - Teaching your dog to pay attention to you, even when the environment is exciting.

  • Impulse control - Helping your dog learn that they don't always get what they want immediately and that calm behaviour is rewarding.

  • Basic obedience - Building reliable responses such as sit, down, stay, leave it, heel, middle, come & crate.

  • Recall - Developing a strong response (marker) when called, even around everyday distractions.

  • Loose lead walking - teaching your dog to walk calmly without constantly pulling towards whatever has caught their attention.

  • Real world obedience - taking training outside the living room and teaching your dog to use these skills in situations that actually matter.

The goal isn't a robot. It's a dog that understands, listens and can confidently make good choices!

Set them up for success, not failure!
